Luxembourg Square Brussels is a public plaza located in the heart of the European quarter in the city of Brussels. It is named after Grand Duke of Luxembourg and was inaugurated in 1848, following the construction of the nearby Royal Palace. The square is surrounded by some of Belgium's most iconic landmarks, including the Guild Houses, the Royal Palace, and St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral.
The square itself is framed by lush green grass, trees, and vibrant flower beds creating a peaceful atmosphere to match its serene setting. It also has two fountains that were added during renovations in 1990s which give it a unique character.
The large open area allows plenty of space for pedestrians to walk around as well as for hosting events. Luxembourg Square Brussels is seen as a symbolic representation of European unity due to its proximity to multiple important EU institutions such as the Council of Europe and the European Commission headquarters. Every year on Europe Day (May 9) it hosts a large celebration with music and dancing to commemorate this special day. Additionally, it has recently become popular with tourists due to its rich history and its central location within Belgium's capital city.
